The week started with friends of ours coming over in the evening post dinner. We chatted for a long time about life, faith and grief. It was a nice catch up till midnight.
My stomach from W19 hadn’t still settled and I went to see the doc who said that its not much to worry about and just treated for a case of acidity.
Although the pain persisted for a few more days, and I realized that it might be purely anxiety. Since this was the week of Rootconf, I think I got too worked up about it and usually when that happens, my stomach is the first to throw up warning signs.
We had a bunch of meetings amongst ourselves as the emcees and with the Hasgeek folks that helped with alignment and that took up a few evenings.
The conference itself went on well. I was a bit disappointed that the track that I was emceeing didn’t have much footfall but 🤷🏾 nothing I can do about that. I had so many jokes and activities that needed a larger audience to work with ☹️. Although I got to meet a lot of old friends and make some new ones too. Its always nice to find people who you share similar interests with.
Got my usual 1.5h of badminton this week (at the AC court). I am so glad that I’m able to make a habit out of this and stick to it. I really have to come enjoy my time on the court.
We spent about 2.5 days in Bangalore and had a wonderful time. We caught up with friends (who are really family at this point) and had great food - both at home and at restaurants.
Even though in terms of a place, Chennai is home for me, in terms of a people, Bangalore will also be a home for me.
This is perhaps a part of me that many don’t know about but more than a decade ago - I was a cardist. A cardist is someone who works with (playing) cards but focuses more on the movement of cards. A magician also works with cards, but is more involved with sleight of hand. Here’s a video of me performing a move called Poco, about 14 years ago:
When I left Bangalore in 2014, to come back to Chennai, I didn’t bring my collection of cards with me, and on this trip to Bangalore, I finally did. After 11 years, all the cards I lavishly spent too much money on, are finally in the same home as I
Cards finally at home after 11 long years
Maybe I’ll get started again, who knows. I really enjoyed it 🙂
I finished Network Effect which is book 5 of the Murderbot diaries. It was the first novel in the series (while the others are novellas) and I really enjoyed it.
With this, I’ve finished the 12 books that I set out to read this year. This is the first time I’ve hit such a goal and I’m very happy I was able to manage it!
I also solved a quick problem that I was having with syncing my Audible reading progress with Goodreads and wrote a quick blog about it too!
No doubt, I will read more this year - but now I want to keep it more academic. This means more non fiction and policy related stuff - watch out!
I’m back in Chennai and my heart is full from the weekend. I am so glad that I have such wonderful people in my life. They are the reason I am.
