Weeknotes - 2025-W36

Wading through knee deep watersWading through knee deep waters

This week was a really hectic one, specially on the work front - we’re having to tackle problems from multiple sides and its not been easy. Some of the problems are entirely new and some of them are old and resurfacing. It’s not been easy, but its stuff that we must handle and do. Onwards and forwards.

Rengaraj and I have been doing many rehearsals to iron out the contents of the upcoming PyCon India talk. Both of our styles of presenting and speaking are very different and I feel that there is a beauty to this - we’re trying to figure out what is the midground which works for both of us as speakers but doesn’t leave the audience feeling like it was 2 different talks but one single homogeneous talk.

I think we’re in a good space given that the conf is just a week away.

I put the gym on pause this week because I had the Chennai Trail Ultra 16K run on Sunday. I didn’t want to go and get sore over the weekend. I wanted to run a bit so that I can do a lot of run/walks during the event.

However I didn’t sleep too well in this week and the past one, and that took a toll. I was really only able to do one 5K run over the week and I wasn’t too happy about that. But sleep is supremely important for well functioning so I prioritized that adding in mobility and foam rolling whenever I could.

Back to the gym from tomorrow 💪🏾

We watched 2 movies this week: Lokah and Bad Girl and absolutely loved both of it.

Lokah is a wonderful exploration that borrows from India folk tales to build superheros on top of it and I’ve always thought that this is a great idea. I’ve previously been a big fan of movies like Maaveran and Minnal Murali which are explorations of similar concepts. Also, I am a fan of Kalyani Priyadarshan and I think she has played the role well in the movie. Although being a long time comic book fanboi - I would’ve liked the writing to be more thorough and felt that there was some very obvious plot holes in the movie.

Bad Girl on the other hand is a movie that I fully loved. Specially the way in which so many of the situations are captured, without stereotyping or placing value judgements was a refreshing change from other movies. It is a must watch for folks of our generation and the previous one too I’d say. Also given that it is directed by a friend of mine - also makes it that much more special to me. I’ve known Varsha since around 2007 and seen her work her way through to where she is now and its a wonderful feeling to see this effort from a friend.

On Sunday, I ran 16K at the Chennai Trail Ultra and had a great time meeting old friends and running with new ones. The trails have always felt like some version of home to me and it felt wonderful to be back on them.

We had 2 river crossings and both of them were a lot of fun and part of the whole experience. Hopefully this is enough of a catalyst in me, to get back to my rhythm in running. Let us see.

We had a spontaneous music night with 2 of our dear friends on Sunday and it was such a nice evening. Each of us playing songs on the TV that we’ve loved and sharing this love with the other 3. Music has such a wonderful tendency to tug at our heartstrings and songs that have done this for us - feel that much more special to share with the ones we love. I get so excited seeing someone’s excitement when they talk about their favourite song.

This was the MO of all my “sittings” with my FIL - and my playlist is SO much more larger because it has so many of his songs too. He listened to my recommendations, and I listened to his. He would’ve loved such an evening - as a ardent music lover himself and with tastes that spread was far and wide. I dearly missed him.

Another week begins tomorrow, one where we get a refresh and a do over. Till next time 👋🏾
