Supergiant games, for the win!
✨HIGHLIGHT✨
From a body POV, I think I might’ve had one of the most satisfying weeks in a long while. I managed to work my way out from a plateau that I seemed to be having at the gym with the bench press. I also managed to hit new highs at squats and deadlifts. But more than that, everything felt “in the right place” and working together very well. Overall, I was very happy with my progress this week. The pull ups have gotten mildly easier to do as well — which for an erstwhile fat kid, is a damn big deal. And I’m grateful that my body supported me towards it 😊
For badminton this week, there were only 4 of us for 2 hours and I was initially a little sceptical of this because I get easily gassed out if I don’t rest up, but I had perhaps forgotten that strength work shows up everywhere. We played 2 best-of-5 games and they were some of the best games we’ve played till date. Ugh, so much fun! I was feeling high even the next day morning. After the game, we went to Double Roti and had a nice meal before closing it all out.
On Tuesday night, we went to our dear friends’ place for some ice cream and catch up. It turned into a lowkey music night (again). Both Prasanna and I were quite tired when we went, but theirs is a place that we can go vegetate at without thinking “oh what will they think”. So the 4 of us vegetated together with some great music and great ice cream 😁
So kids, get yourself friends you can vegetate along with.
This week, Muthu (my coach) introduced me to a place for Coffee, that I fell in love with - Grind Coffee House. I had been eyeing this on my commute and it was coincidental that he asked me if I want to grab a coffee after gym and what a right decision that was 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻.
The coffee is great! It has great body and mouthfeel. Since he introduced me to it, I’ve gone back there 2 more times just in this week itself.
This week was the monthly Python User Group - Chennaipy meetup. This is something I look forward to every single month. To be among such a varied people is truly a privilege. They are all solving interesting problems in their own respective domains and its wonderful to sit down and listen to them talk about it.
Off late, we have been amping up the activities on the Chennaipy front with new people joining us to help organize it and its been exhilarating. The website was broken till this week, and its fixed now. And there are already plans to do more in the upcoming weeks. This is one community where I have found a sense of belonging, and I hope that it stays that way, and I can do my best to contribute back to it.
Back during the pandemic, whenever I heard news of things going south, and specially when all 4 of our parents were sick with covid and we were freaking the crap out - there was one thing, and only one thing that held my sanity - a game called Hades. Whenever things got too hard for me to handle, I’d sit on this game, get killed many many times (it is a roguelite for the observant of you), beat the final boss and progress the story forward. This brought back some control to my life and I have since then suggested it (and bought it) for many people to play and enjoy.
So when I heard that Supergiant games is working on Hades 2, I was super pumped and the game released this week! And that is how I spent most of my Sunday - Playing Hades 2. It has the same sense of comfort I felt in Hades, but it feels different enough that I don’t feel that its a re-iteration of the first part. The gameplay is familiar, yet new and the storyline is so well built and the soundtrack is gorgeous. I also figured out how to pair my BT headphones to the switch so I’m now playing in FULL personal mode with 0 external distractions 🤤.
I’m going to cherish this game and I’m sure I’ll write more about it in the upcoming weeks, provided I can make the time to play it.
The upcoming week is short, work wise with 1st & 2nd being holidays. At the office we decided to give 3rd also as an off day so that the folks can spend more time with family.
I hope to get some solid policy related reading done over the holidays - let us see :)
Till next time 👋🏻
